What does it mean?
B1349 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: DAB Circuit Short To Power .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on and the restraint system disabled
- Driver airbag deployment cannot be guaranteed in a crash
- Horn or steering wheel controls operate erratically or sound on their own
- The fault returns immediately after clearing
- No change in driveability
Likely causes
- Clockspring internally damaged, bridging the squib circuit to the horn or accessory feed that also runs through it
- Aftermarket steering wheel, horn or cruise control wiring spliced into the airbag circuit
- Corrosion inside a connector bridging a squib wire to a supply pin
- Chafed harness inside the steering column touching a power feed
- Incorrect connector pinning after a previous repair
- Airbag module internally shorted to a supply
- Restraint control module fault
How to fix it
- Disconnect the battery and observe the specified waiting time before disconnecting the airbag
- Remove the driver airbag and check both squib circuits for voltage with the ignition on
- Inspect the clockspring closely, especially where the horn and accessory circuits share its ribbon
- Remove any aftermarket steering wheel or horn wiring spliced into the column harness
- Check both connectors for corrosion and bridged terminals
- Replace the clockspring if the short is internal to it
- Repair or replace the affected harness and, as the last step, the airbag module; then clear codes and confirm the self-test
