What does it mean?
B1470 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Channel 4 Audio Speaker Output Circuit Low .
Symptoms
- Little or no sound from the speaker on channel 4
- Amplifier may mute that channel, and sometimes the system, to protect itself
- Rear or fill sound disappears, so the stage collapses toward the front
- Amplifier runs hot and, in a hard short, may smell burnt
- Code returns as soon as it is cleared
Likely causes
- Output wire grounded against body metal, a sill trim edge or a seat mounting bracket
- Wire pinched by a trim fastener during panel removal or an accessory installation
- Partially shorted voice coil in a speaker that has been driven hard
- Aftermarket speaker with lower impedance than the channel is designed for
- Water in the speaker or its connector, typically from a leaking seal or a blocked drain
- Amplifier output stage shorted internally on channel 4
How to fix it
- Locate the affected speaker by ear using the fader and balance controls
- Unplug the speaker and measure each output wire to a clean chassis ground at the amplifier connector; a low reading with the speaker removed means the harness is at fault
- If the harness is good, measure the speaker itself against the specified impedance to spot a shorted coil
- Remove the trim along the route and inspect for pinch points, screws, staples and chafe on sharp edges
- Check connectors and the surrounding carpet or panel for water and corrosion
- Repair or replace the damaged wire, insulate it and re-route it away from fasteners and sharp metal
- Fit a speaker of correct impedance if a non-standard unit was installed
- Clear the code and confirm the channel stays alive at normal listening level
