What does it mean?
B1471 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Channel 4 Audio Speaker Output Circuit High .
Symptoms
- No sound from the channel 4 speaker, or a constant hum or buzz from that position
- Amplifier keeps the channel switched off until the fault is repaired
- Fuses on the circuit that is feeding the speaker line may blow
- Fault usually appears immediately after an audio, trim or seat installation
- Code is set every time the system is powered up
Likely causes
- Speaker wire chafed against a powered circuit sharing the same loom, for example a lamp, lock or seat feed
- Aftermarket wiring where a live wire was joined to a speaker lead during a stereo installation
- Open on one of the two output leads, leaving the line floating at a high level
- Corroded terminal or splice adding resistance and lifting the reading
- Moisture bridging a speaker pin to a live pin in a shared connector
- Amplifier output stage failed and holding channel 4 high
How to fix it
- Confirm which speaker belongs to the channel using fader and balance
- Disconnect the amplifier connector and the speaker, then check both output wires for voltage with the ignition on; there should be none
- Note whether the voltage is permanent or ignition-switched to identify the feeding circuit
- Remove trim along the route and look for melted insulation, chafe against a live wire and non-factory splices
- Check both wires for continuity end to end so an open leg is not mistaken for a short to power
- Remove aftermarket taps, repair the damaged section and re-route it clear of powered wiring
- Test the channel with a known-good speaker at the amplifier before suspecting the amplifier
- Clear the code, cycle the ignition and verify normal output from that position
