What does it mean?
B1481 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Channel 7 Audio Speaker Output Circuit Open .
Symptoms
- The channel 7 speaker produces no sound at all while the others play normally
- Fader and balance no longer move sound to that position
- Sound may come back for a moment when the trim is pressed or the door is closed
- Detail, treble or fill from that part of the cabin is missing and the system sounds unbalanced
- Code is stored again after every ignition cycle
Likely causes
- Speaker connector unplugged or half seated after trim, seat, parcel shelf or pillar work
- Broken conductor where the loom flexes, such as a door jamb boot or a tailgate hinge area
- Open voice coil after age, corrosion or long-term overdriving
- Corroded spade terminal that has lost contact with the speaker tab
- Terminal pushed out of the amplifier or head unit connector
- Channel left unconnected after a non-standard audio installation, common when a premium system is replaced with a basic head unit
- Amplifier output stage failed open on channel 7
How to fix it
- Use fader and balance to establish which speaker is silent
- Remove the trim and confirm the connector is fully latched and the terminals grip the tabs
- Measure the speaker at its own terminals; an infinite reading means the coil has failed
- Check continuity of both output wires between the amplifier and the speaker connector
- Flex the loom at each bend point while measuring, since this is where conductors break
- Inspect the amplifier connector for a backed-out or unlocked terminal and reseat it
- Repair the break with a soldered or correctly crimped joint and protect the repair where the loom moves
- Replace the speaker if the coil is open, then clear the code and verify with a fader sweep
