What does it mean?
B1483 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Channel 8 Audio Speaker Output Circuit Performance .
Symptoms
- Sound from the channel 8 position is distorted, weak, buzzing or rattling
- Output from that speaker fades in and out with no clear pattern
- Fader and balance no longer position the sound correctly
- The amplifier mutes the channel for a while and then brings it back
- Code reappears after clearing even though some sound is still produced
Likely causes
- Voice coil partly damaged or aged, so impedance has drifted out of specification
- Speaker of the wrong impedance or type fitted on that channel
- High-resistance connection at a corroded terminal or a poorly made splice
- Conductor fatiguing where the loom bends, producing an intermittent load
- Damp inside the speaker or its connector after a seal, drain or membrane problem
- Amplifier channel 8 output stage losing performance
How to fix it
- Play a steady tone and use fader and balance to find the affected speaker
- Remove the trim and inspect the cone, surround, basket and terminals for damage, corrosion and moisture
- Measure the speaker's DC resistance at its terminals against the value for this system
- Repeat the measurement at the amplifier connector to see whether the wiring adds resistance
- Flex the loom at its bend points while watching the meter for dropouts
- Substitute a known-good speaker at the amplifier end to check the output itself
- Repair the wiring or fit a correct-specification speaker, clear the code and verify with a fader sweep
- Only consider the amplifier once the speaker and the wiring have both proved good
