What does it mean?
B1484 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Channel 8 Audio Speaker Output Circuit Low .
Symptoms
- Little or no sound from the channel 8 speaker
- The amplifier may mute the channel, or the whole system, to protect itself
- The soundstage collapses toward the working speakers
- The amplifier housing runs hot; a hard short may leave a burnt smell
- Code returns immediately each time it is cleared
Likely causes
- Output wire grounded against body metal, a bracket or a seat frame
- Wire pinched by a clip or screw during trim, seat or accessory work
- Voice coil partially shorted in a speaker that has been driven hard for a long time
- Low-impedance aftermarket speaker fitted where the channel expects a higher load
- Water in the connector or loom creating a leakage path to ground
- Amplifier output stage shorted internally on channel 8
How to fix it
- Confirm the silent position with fader and balance
- Unplug the speaker and measure each output wire to clean chassis ground at the amplifier connector; a low reading with the speaker removed means the harness is shorted
- If the harness is clean, measure the speaker and compare it with the specified impedance to find a shorted coil
- Remove trim and follow the wire for pinch points, screws, staples and chafe against sharp metal
- Check the connectors and surrounding trim or carpet for water and corrosion
- Repair or renew the damaged wire, insulate it and route it clear of fasteners and moving parts
- Fit a speaker of correct impedance if a non-standard unit was installed
- Clear the code and confirm the channel plays cleanly at normal listening level
