What does it mean?
B1954 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Slide Motor Or Sensor Error .
Symptoms
- Seat will not slide forwards or backwards, or moves in only one direction
- Motor runs but the seat does not move, or moves in short bursts
- Memory recall stops halfway and the position is never reached
- Grinding, clicking or straining noise from under the seat
- Other seat adjustments keep working while only the slide is dead
Likely causes
- Seized or worn slide motor, or brushes worn to the point where it stalls under load
- Slide track jammed by a coin, seat belt buckle, floor mat or debris
- Dry, bent or damaged rail and lead screw, raising the effort beyond what the motor can deliver
- Position sensor or Hall pulse ring on the slide motor dirty, damaged or unplugged
- Broken or chafed wire in the loom under the seat, which flexes on every adjustment
- Corroded connector at the motor or the seat module
- Seat module output driver failure
How to fix it
- Check the code with the seat unobstructed and try each direction, noting whether the motor runs at all
- Read the slide position value in live data while operating the switch, a frozen count with the motor running means a sensor or track problem
- Remove any object jamming the track and inspect the rails for damage, then clean and lubricate them
- Measure voltage at the motor connector while the switch is held, full voltage with no movement condemns the motor or the mechanism
- With no voltage present, check the switch, the module output and the loom under the seat, flexing it as you go
- Test the position sensor supply, ground and signal, and reseat the connector
- Replace the slide motor and sensor assembly or repair the wiring, then run the seat through its full travel and reset the memory positions
