What does it mean?
B1969 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Power Liftgate Open Direction Excessive Position Sensor Counts .
Symptoms
- Gate opens past its normal height, or stops short and beeps
- Powered operation shuts down mid cycle and the gate has to be finished by hand
- Programmed open height is ignored
- Motor keeps running with little or no gate movement
- Fault repeats after every few cycles rather than being a one off
Likely causes
- Drive clutch slipping, letting the motor and pulse ring turn while the gate stands still
- Spindle or cable drive slipping inside the drive unit
- Gate travel restricted by an obstruction while the motor keeps running
- Damaged magnet ring or a sensor picking up extra pulses from vibration
- Electrical noise coupled into the sensor wiring from a nearby power circuit or an aftermarket accessory
- Travel limits never learned, or a stored calibration lost after a battery disconnect
- Worn hinges or struts letting the gate float instead of following the drive
How to fix it
- Watch the position counts in live data through one slow manual cycle and compare them with the actual gate movement
- Check that the drive clutch engages and holds, listening for a motor that spins on without moving the gate
- Confirm no obstruction, roof load or ice is limiting travel, and that the hinges move freely
- Inspect the drive unit for a damaged magnet ring, debris on the sensor face and a loose sensor mounting
- Check sensor wiring routing and screening, and look for aftermarket wiring run alongside it
- Carry out the liftgate travel learn or calibration procedure and repeat the test
- Replace the drive unit if the clutch slips or the pulse count still exceeds the real travel after calibration
