What does it mean?
C1110 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: ABS Controller and Electric Unit (Control Unit) .
Symptoms
- ABS, stability control and often the red brake warning lamp all illuminated
- The code returns immediately every time it is cleared
- Scan tool cannot communicate with the ABS module or the connection drops
- ABS, traction control and stability functions completely unavailable
- Base brakes still work but with no anti lock regulation
- Other systems that use ABS data, such as cruise control, are disabled
Likely causes
- Corrosion or water ingress in the module connector, which upsets the internal circuits
- Poor power supply or ground causing the module to fail its start up checks
- Voltage spikes from jump starting, welding on the vehicle or a loose battery terminal
- Cracked solder joints or a failed internal driver after years of heat and vibration
- Corrupted software after an interrupted programming session or a flat battery during coding
- Physical damage to the module from an impact, flooding or steam cleaning the engine bay
- Genuine internal electronic failure of the control unit
How to fix it
- Verify battery condition and charging voltage, then check module power and ground at the connector
- Remove the module connector and inspect every terminal for corrosion, moisture and push back
- Check the module ground bolt for rust and tighten it to specification
- Look for water damage around the module and dry the area, sealing any leak path
- Try to read the module with a different scan tool or a known good lead to rule out a tool issue
- Check whether a software update is released for the module and reflash if applicable
- Replace the ABS control unit and carry out the required coding, calibration and bleeding
