What does it mean?
C1114 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: ABS Hydraulic Valve Power Relay Circuit Failure . This is a standardised OBD-II code. The technical definition is the same regardless of the make or model of vehicle, although specific causes and symptoms can vary between vehicles.
Symptoms
- ABS and stability warning lamps on shortly after every start
- No relay click or valve solenoid noise during the ignition on self test
- ABS never activates on a slippery surface or during an emergency stop
- Traction, stability and hill hold assistance unavailable
- The fault may be intermittent and set only in damp or cold conditions
- Ordinary braking still works but with no electronic support
Likely causes
- Failed relay, pitted contacts or an open coil in the valve power relay
- Corroded or loose terminals in the relay socket or the modulator connector
- High resistance in the feed to the valve block, often at a fuse or a heavy connector
- Poor module ground so the relay never sees a proper switching reference
- Supply voltage falling below threshold when the relay is commanded
- Chafed relay control wire that shorts intermittently
- Failed relay control or feedback circuit inside the control module
How to fix it
- Check the ABS fuses and clean the relay socket terminals
- Command the relay with the scan tool and watch its status and any change in valve noise
- Measure voltage at the valve block feed while the relay is energised and look for a drop
- Perform voltage drop tests on the module supply and ground
- Substitute a known good relay where it is a plug-in type
- Inspect the harness between the fuse box and the modulator for chafing and corrosion
- Replace the hydraulic unit or module assembly if the relay is built in and proven faulty, then code and bleed
