What does it mean?
C1432 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Steering Angle Sensor Power Source Voltage Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Stability, traction and ABS warning lamps on together
- Steering related warning message in the instrument cluster
- Stability and traction control switched off
- Electric power steering may drop to reduced assist and feel heavy
- Steering angle reads zero or an implausible value on live data
- Lane keeping, park assist or adaptive lighting stop working
Likely causes
- Blown fuse or an open supply wire feeding the sensor or the steering column module
- High resistance from corroded or spread terminals in the sensor connector
- Damaged conductor inside the clock spring, which carries power to the sensor on many vehicles
- Short to ground on the supply line pulling the voltage down
- Poor sensor ground point or a corroded body ground behind the dash
- Low system voltage caused by a weak battery or a charging system fault
- Internal regulator failure in the sensor, or a faulty module supply output
How to fix it
- Test battery and charging voltage first; a weak battery alone can set this code
- Check the fuse that feeds the steering angle sensor or the column module
- Backprobe supply and ground at the sensor connector with the ignition on and compare with specification
- Perform a voltage drop test on the ground circuit while the system is awake
- Unplug the sensor and check the supply wire for a short to ground
- Inspect the clock spring and column connectors for damage, especially after airbag or column work
- Repair the wiring, or replace the clock spring or sensor, then calibrate the steering angle
