What does it mean?
C1436 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Yaw Rate Sensor Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Stability and traction control lamps on with both systems disabled
- ABS may still work but brake force distribution warnings can appear
- No stability intervention when the car starts to slide
- Yaw rate parameter reads zero at all times or does not change during cornering
- Warning lamps come on shortly after every start and stay on
Likely causes
- Yaw rate sensor internal fault giving a stuck, drifting or noisy output
- Sensor bracket loose, or the sensor refitted in the wrong orientation after interior work
- Corroded or partly unplugged sensor connector, often after a spill or a water leak into the cabin
- Open or shorted signal or communication wire between the sensor and the stability module
- Supply or ground fault at the sensor
- Calibration never performed after replacing the sensor or a suspension component, or after an alignment
- Stability module software or configuration mismatch
How to fix it
- Read yaw rate live data while stationary and during a slow figure of eight; the value must follow the turn direction
- Cross check yaw rate against steering angle and wheel speed data for agreement
- Verify the sensor is bolted down tight and sits in its designed orientation
- Inspect the connector and harness under the console or seat for moisture and corrosion
- Measure supply and ground at the sensor and check the signal or bus lines for open and short faults
- Repair any network fault first, then perform the zero point calibration
- Replace the sensor and calibrate if the output stays implausible after a good circuit test
