What does it mean?
C1442 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Invalid Data Received from Acceleration Sensor .
Symptoms
- Stability and traction control lamps on with the functions disabled
- ABS lamp may light as well
- Hill hold and roll stability features unavailable
- Lateral or longitudinal acceleration values stuck, out of range or noisy on live data
- Occasional unexpected brake intervention before the system shuts down
Likely causes
- Internal fault in the acceleration (G) sensor producing implausible values
- Sensor loose on its bracket, mounted at the wrong angle, or refitted incorrectly after interior work
- Corrupted bus messages caused by a damaged network wire between the sensor and the module
- Sensor not calibrated after replacement, suspension work or a wheel alignment
- Supply voltage or ground problem at the sensor
- Water intrusion into the connector under the console, carpet or seat
- Configuration or software mismatch between the sensor and the control module
How to fix it
- Read lateral and longitudinal acceleration on level ground; both should sit close to zero
- Drive a slow figure of eight and confirm the values move in the correct direction and return to zero
- Check that the sensor is bolted tight and correctly oriented
- Inspect the connector and harness for water, corrosion and pin damage
- Measure supply and ground at the sensor, then check the network lines for faults
- Repair any bus or communication problem first, then run the sensor zero point calibration
- Replace the sensor and calibrate it when the values stay invalid with good wiring
