What does it mean?
C1445 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Vehicle Driven with Steering Angle Sensor not Initialized .
Symptoms
- Stability, traction and ABS warning lamps on after workshop or battery work
- Stability control never intervenes
- Steering angle on live data does not match the wheels, or reads a large offset when driving straight
- Steering wheel appears off centre while the vehicle tracks straight
- Warning lamps return on each start until the sensor is learned
Likely causes
- Battery disconnected, jump started or a module replaced and the car driven before calibration
- Steering angle sensor, clock spring, rack or column fitted without carrying out the relearn
- Wheel alignment or suspension repair completed without resetting the steering angle
- Calibration attempted but not completed because the wheels were not straight or the vehicle moved
- Faulty sensor that loses its learned value at every key cycle
- Loss of network communication during the learning procedure
- Incorrect module configuration or software after a replacement
How to fix it
- Set the vehicle on level ground with the wheels straight ahead
- Run the steering angle zero point learn with a scan tool and follow every prompt to the end
- Where required, drive straight at low speed to finish the routine
- Verify the angle reads close to zero straight ahead and is symmetrical at both full locks
- Check alignment and thrust angle if the steering wheel is not centred when driving straight
- If the value is lost after a key cycle, check sensor supply, ground and network wiring
- Replace the sensor and repeat the learn when it will not hold the calibration
