What does it mean?
C1501 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Tire Pressure Sensor 1 Internal .
Symptoms
- Tyre pressure warning lamp on, sometimes flashing at start-up then staying lit
- One wheel position shows dashes or no pressure and temperature value
- Displayed pressure for that wheel is frozen at an old reading
- The system does not update after the tyre is inflated or deflated
- Tyres themselves hold pressure normally, so nothing feels wrong while driving
Likely causes
- Depleted internal battery in the sensor, common as the sensor reaches the end of its service life
- Sensor damaged during a tyre change, when it was over-torqued or knocked off the rim
- Corroded valve stem or a seized stem nut breaking the seal and letting moisture in
- Internal electronics failure after a pothole strike or kerb impact
- Tyre sealant sprayed inside the tyre coating the sensor and its pressure port
- Wrong sensor type fitted for the vehicle, or an unregistered replacement sensor
- Extreme heat or pressure exposure damaging the sensing element
How to fix it
- Read all sensor IDs, pressures, temperatures and battery status with a TPMS tool
- Trigger each sensor in turn to see which one fails to respond
- Check the tyre mechanically with a gauge to prove the pressure is actually correct
- Verify that the registered sensor ID matches the sensor fitted to that wheel
- With the tyre removed, inspect the valve stem and sensor body for corrosion and cracks
- Replace the faulty sensor, program its ID and carry out the wheel position relearn
- Recheck all positions after the relearn and clear the code
