What does it mean?
P1130 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: A/F Sensor-11 (Bank 1 Sensor 1) Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp on, often on the first drive after a cold start
- Engine stays in open loop, so fuel economy drops noticeably
- Rough idle and hesitation while the engine is still warming up
- Sulphur or rotten egg smell from the exhaust
- Emissions test failure with the oxygen sensor monitor incomplete
Likely causes
- Failed sensor element, commonly after high mileage or thermal shock from driving through water
- Blown fuse or open heater supply that prevents the sensor from reaching operating temperature
- Chafed or heat-damaged sensor pigtail where it passes near the exhaust manifold
- Corroded or water-filled connector, often at a bulkhead or under-body routing point
- Sensor contamination from coolant, silicone sealant or excessive oil consumption
- Exhaust leak ahead of the sensor letting outside air reach the element
- Open, shorted or high-resistance signal or reference circuit back to the PCM (powertrain control module)
How to fix it
- Read freeze frame, then watch the Bank 1 Sensor 1 current or lambda value from cold to fully warm
- Check the heater fuse and confirm battery voltage reaches the sensor heater with the key on
- Inspect the pigtail and connector for melted insulation, chafe marks, corrosion or water
- Measure sensor heater resistance and compare it with specification; an open element will not warm up
- Test the signal circuits for continuity to the PCM and for shorts to ground or voltage
- Check for exhaust leaks between the head and the sensor before condemning the sensor
- Replace the sensor with the correct part number for the position, then verify closed loop operation and fuel trims
