What does it mean?
P1135 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: HO2S Heater Circuit Current Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp on, usually within the first few minutes of driving
- Delayed transition into closed loop, with poor economy while cold
- Rough idle or a slight stumble immediately after a cold start
- Repeated fuse failures in the sensor heater circuit
- Oxygen sensor readiness monitor not completing
Likely causes
- Heater element inside the sensor partially open or drifted well away from its rated resistance
- Short to ground in the heater control wire pulling excessive current
- Blown fuse or an intermittent relay contact in the heater supply
- Heat-damaged pigtail where the wire touches the exhaust pipe or a shield
- Corroded terminals adding resistance and reducing current flow
- Ground path for the heater loose or corroded at its body attachment
- Failing heater driver stage inside the PCM (powertrain control module)
How to fix it
- Read freeze frame to see whether the fault set cold or after the engine was warm
- Check the heater fuse and inspect it for signs of repeated overheating
- Measure heater resistance at the sensor and compare it against the specified value at ambient temperature
- With the heater commanded on, measure current with a low range clamp or by voltage drop across a known resistance
- Disconnect the sensor and check the control wire for a short to ground back to the module
- Inspect and repair pigtail routing so the harness cannot rest against hot exhaust components
- Replace the sensor if the element is out of specification; suspect the module driver only after wiring and sensor test good
