What does it mean?
P1132 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: HO2S (Bank 2 Sensor 1) Heater Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp on, typically within a short drive after start
- Longer than normal time before the engine enters closed loop on the Bank 2 side
- Slightly rough running and higher fuel consumption while cold
- Oxygen sensor and catalyst readiness monitors staying incomplete
- Emissions test failure even though the engine feels normal when warm
Likely causes
- Open heater element inside the sensor, the most common cause on high mileage vehicles
- Blown fuse or failed relay supplying heater voltage to the Bank 2 sensor
- Chafed, melted or broken heater wire where the pigtail runs close to the exhaust
- Corroded terminals or water in the sensor connector
- Open or high-resistance ground for the heater control circuit
- Failed low-side driver for that heater inside the PCM (powertrain control module)
- Incorrect replacement sensor whose heater resistance does not match the original specification
How to fix it
- Identify Bank 2 correctly for the engine layout before testing anything
- Check the heater fuse, then confirm battery voltage on the heater supply wire at the sensor connector with the key on
- Measure heater element resistance across the two heater pins and compare with the specified cold value
- Check continuity of the heater control wire from the connector back to the PCM and look for a short to ground
- Inspect the pigtail routing for heat damage and the connector for green corrosion or moisture
- Watch heater current or duty on the scan tool if the data is supported
- Replace the sensor with the correct part for that position once the wiring proves good, then verify both banks enter closed loop at the same rate
