What does it mean?
P1141 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: HO2S-12 (Bank 1 Sensor 2) Heater Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp on with normal engine performance
- Catalyst efficiency monitor never completing, so readiness stays incomplete
- Slight increase in fuel consumption on short trips
- Emissions inspection failure despite the engine feeling healthy
- Other downstream sensor codes appearing at the same time
Likely causes
- Open heater element inside the downstream sensor after long service
- Corroded or water-filled connector, common because this sensor sits under the vehicle
- Heater supply fuse blown or a shared supply circuit interrupted
- Heater wire chafed against the underbody, heat shield or exhaust hanger
- Poor ground for the heater circuit at the body attachment point
- Failed heater control driver inside the PCM (powertrain control module)
- Road salt and moisture corroding the pigtail where the insulation is damaged
How to fix it
- Raise the vehicle and inspect the downstream sensor connector for corrosion, water and road salt damage
- Check the heater supply fuse and confirm battery voltage at the sensor connector with the key on
- Measure heater element resistance and compare it with the specified cold value
- Check continuity of the heater control wire to the PCM and test for a short to ground
- Inspect the pigtail routing and repair any chafe points, then secure the harness away from hot parts
- Clean and retighten the heater ground point if voltage drop on the ground side is high
- Replace the downstream sensor once the circuit checks good, then complete a drive cycle to run the monitor
