Solenoid Valve Running Losses Control Circuit Electrical

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Check engine oil level and condition first, since low or degraded oil affects variable valve timing directly

What does it mean?

P1145 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Intake Valve Timing Control Position Sensor Circuit (Bank 2) .

Symptoms

  • Malfunction indicator lamp on with reduced power, particularly in the mid rev range
  • Rough idle and a slight loss of smoothness at low engine speeds
  • Poor fuel economy and sluggish acceleration
  • Occasional rattle from the front of the engine on start-up
  • Hard starting after the vehicle has stood overnight

Likely causes

  • Failed camshaft position sensor for the Bank 2 intake cam
  • Metal debris or oil sludge collected on the sensor tip, weakening the signal
  • Damaged, cracked or loose reluctor ring or cam sprocket target teeth
  • Open, shorted or high-resistance signal circuit between sensor and PCM (powertrain control module)
  • Oil leaking into the sensor connector along the wiring, corroding the terminals
  • Timing chain stretch or a worn tensioner shifting cam timing beyond the correction range
  • Low oil pressure or a clogged oil control valve screen preventing the cam phaser from moving as commanded

How to fix it

  1. Check engine oil level and condition first, since low or degraded oil affects variable valve timing directly
  2. Read all stored codes; oil control valve and correlation codes alongside this one narrow the fault quickly
  3. Compare commanded and actual cam position on Bank 2 in live data while raising engine speed
  4. Remove the sensor and inspect the tip for metal filings and sludge, then check the connector for oil contamination
  5. Measure the signal circuit for continuity to the PCM and check the supply and ground at the connector
  6. Inspect the cam sprocket target teeth and check chain slack where accessible
  7. Replace the sensor if it fails testing, clean or replace the oil control valve screen, and recheck cam response
