Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Compare the sensor against a known reference before replacing it.

What does it mean?

P1182 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Supercharger Inlet Pressure (SCIP) Sensor Performance .

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Noticeable loss of boost and reduced power under acceleration
  • Engine may limit power or enter limp mode on some applications
  • Uneven idle and hesitation when the boost system engages
  • Higher fuel consumption
  • Whistling or hissing from the intake if a duct leak is causing the fault

Likely causes

  • Blocked, kinked, cracked or oil-filled pressure reference hose to the sensor
  • Sensor element drifted or fouled by oil mist from the crankcase ventilation system
  • Leak in the intake ducting between the air filter and the supercharger inlet
  • Supercharger bypass valve stuck, so the pressure at the inlet never matches expectation
  • High resistance in the signal or ground wiring, corroded connector pins
  • Restricted air filter creating an unusually large depression at the inlet
  • Rarely, a control module input or calibration fault

How to fix it

  1. With the engine off and the ignition on, compare the sensor reading with barometric pressure and with the manifold pressure sensor; all should read close to atmospheric
  2. Watch the sensor value during acceleration and check that it changes smoothly with engine load
  3. Remove and inspect the reference hose for oil, cracks, kinks or blockage
  4. Check the intake ducting and clamps between the filter and the supercharger inlet for leaks
  5. Inspect the crankcase ventilation system, since oil mist fouls this sensor
  6. Test the signal, reference and ground circuits for continuity and voltage drop
  7. Replace the sensor if it still reads implausibly with good plumbing and wiring, then verify boost values on a road test
