What does it mean?
P1199 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: O2 Sensor Heater Circuit (Bank 2-Sensor 2) Electrical Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Check engine light on soon after starting
- Driveability usually unaffected, since the sensor monitors catalyst performance rather than fuel control
- Catalyst monitor for bank 2 cannot complete, so readiness stays incomplete
- Emissions inspection cannot be passed
- The fault may set only in wet conditions if water is entering a connector
- Occasionally paired with other downstream heater codes
Likely causes
- Open or shorted heater element in the bank 2 downstream sensor
- Water ingress and corrosion in the sensor connector under the vehicle
- Chafed, crushed or corroded harness section along the underbody
- Blown fuse or failed relay in the heater supply circuit
- Poor or corroded ground for that heater circuit
- Damage from road debris or previous exhaust replacement
- Failed heater driver channel inside the control module
How to fix it
- Check the heater fuse first, especially if both downstream sensors have set codes
- Inspect the bank 2 downstream connector for water, green corrosion and a failed seal
- Measure heater element resistance and compare it with the bank 1 downstream sensor
- Confirm supply voltage at the connector with the ignition on and check the ground with a voltage drop test
- Trace the harness along the floor pan and exhaust for crushed, chafed or rodent-damaged sections
- Repair the wiring, replace corroded terminals and reseal the connector properly
- Replace the bank 2 downstream sensor if the heater is proven faulty, then clear codes and complete a drive cycle
