What does it mean?
P1210 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Traction Control System Signal Missing: .
Symptoms
- Traction control and ABS warning lamps on together with the check engine lamp
- Traction control no longer intervenes on wet or loose surfaces
- Cruise control may be disabled
- Speedometer behaves oddly if the same wheel speed data feeds it
- Engine running is often unaffected, so the driver only notices the lamps
Likely causes
- Fault inside the traction control or ABS module that stops it sending the torque request
- Open, shorted or corroded wire between the traction control module and the powertrain module
- Communication bus fault, or a module that has dropped off the network
- Wheel speed sensor failure that disables the traction control function
- Blown fuse or a corroded ground shared by the traction control module
- Water damaged connector at either module
How to fix it
- Scan every module, not just the engine, and deal with the ABS or traction control codes first
- Watch all four wheel speed values on the scan tool while driving slowly and look for one that drops out
- Check the fuses and grounds belonging to the ABS and traction control module
- Inspect the wiring and connectors between the two modules for corrosion and chafe damage
- Carry out bus resistance and voltage checks if communication codes are also stored
- Fix the underlying chassis fault; this powertrain code normally clears with it
- Consider reprogramming or replacing a module only once sensors and wiring are verified
