What does it mean?
P1214 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Cylinder 2 Fuel Injection Circuit Short to B+ .
Symptoms
- Check engine lamp on, flashing if the misfire becomes heavy
- Misfire and shake at idle that tracks cylinder 2
- Black smoke and a rich fuel smell when the injector is forced open
- Fuel washing down the bore, diluted oil and a soaked spark plug
- Poor starting, stalling and a noticeable rise in fuel consumption
Likely causes
- Water, coolant or oil in the injector connector linking the supply pin to the control pin
- Injector wire chafed against a bracket or a clamp where it lies next to an ignition or relay feed
- Short inside the injector between its winding and the supply terminal
- Loom pinched during a previous repair, or a splice made to the wrong wire
- Rodent damage to the harness over the cylinder head
- Module injector driver already burnt out by the short circuit
How to fix it
- Note which cylinders are reported; a group of them usually means a common harness or connector fault
- Unplug the cylinder 2 injector and probe the control wire with the ignition on; battery voltage there proves the short
- Dry and inspect the connector, then measure between the injector control pin and its supply pin
- Follow the loom by hand and look for flattened, melted or rubbed insulation next to power wires
- Compare injector resistance across all cylinders to find an internally shorted unit
- Repair the wiring first and confirm the short is gone before ordering an injector
- Check the module driver output only after the circuit itself is clean
