What does it mean?
P1272 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Acceleration Position Sensor 2-3 Correlation Error .
Symptoms
- The MIL is on together with a reduced power warning
- Limp mode with the engine limited to a low rev ceiling
- Poor pedal response, sometimes no response at all
- Idle speed stuck higher than normal
- Hesitation or a momentary loss of drive during acceleration
- Cruise control unavailable
Likely causes
- One of the two tracks drifting because of a worn resistive surface inside the pedal
- High resistance in one signal circuit from corroded or loose terminals
- Shared reference or ground with a poor connection, shifting only one of the signals
- Chafed pedal loom causing crosstalk or an intermittent short between the signals
- Moisture in the pedal connector from a leak into the footwell
- Pedal not returning fully because of a trapped mat or a mechanical obstruction
- Failed pedal position sensor assembly
How to fix it
- Graph all pedal tracks together on the scan tool and press the pedal slowly through full travel, looking for the track that jumps or lags
- Check that the pedal returns freely to rest with no mat or trim interference
- Inspect the pedal connector for damp, corrosion and pin tension on the affected signals
- Measure the reference voltage and sensor ground at the pedal with the ignition on
- Perform a voltage drop test on the shared ground, since a poor ground offsets only some of the tracks
- Test each suspect signal wire for continuity and for shorts with the connectors unplugged at both ends
- Replace the pedal position sensor assembly once the wiring is proven, then complete the pedal learn procedure and verify all tracks agree
