What does it mean?
P1274 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: A/C Clutch Control Circuit 2 Open .
Symptoms
- The MIL is on and the air conditioning blows warm
- Compressor clutch never engages, with no click when the system is switched on
- No idle speed increase when the air conditioning is requested
- Cooling fans may not switch on with the air conditioning
- Air conditioning works intermittently before failing completely
- No other driveability problems, since the engine itself runs normally
Likely causes
- Open winding in the compressor clutch coil
- Blown fuse or a failed relay in the clutch supply circuit
- Broken or chafed wire between the relay, the module and the compressor
- Corroded or water-damaged connector at the compressor, which sits low in the engine bay
- Loose or backed-out terminal in the relay socket
- Poor ground for the clutch circuit or the relay
- Module output driver open, considered after the external circuit is checked
How to fix it
- Command the compressor clutch on with the scan tool and listen for the click at the compressor
- Check the relevant fuse and swap the clutch relay with an identical one to rule it out
- Measure for battery voltage at the compressor connector with the clutch commanded on
- Unplug the clutch connector and measure the coil resistance; an infinite reading proves an open coil
- Check the ground side and the control wire back to the module for continuity
- Inspect the connector at the compressor for corrosion and road salt damage, and check refrigerant pressure is high enough for the system to allow engagement
- Repair the wiring, replace the relay or fit a new clutch assembly as proven, then verify engagement and idle-up on live data
