Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Read the freeze frame and check the misfire counters to confirm cylinder 3

What does it mean?

P1310 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Ignition coil 3 control -feedback circuitmalfunction .

Symptoms

  • MIL (check engine lamp) on, sometimes flashing under acceleration
  • Misfire on cylinder 3 with a shaking idle
  • Hesitation, flat spots and reduced power when pulling away
  • Hard starting, especially when the engine is cold or damp
  • Fuel smell from the exhaust and higher consumption

Likely causes

  • Ignition coil 3 with a failed primary winding or a failed built-in igniter
  • Open, shorted or high-resistance control (trigger) wire between the module and coil 3
  • Feedback wire from coil 3 broken, shorted to ground or shorted to battery
  • Corroded, loose or oil-flooded coil connector
  • Missing supply voltage to the coil, or a poor ignition ground
  • Failed ignition control module output stage for that coil
  • Engine control module driver fault, only after the wiring and coil are cleared

How to fix it

  1. Read the freeze frame and check the misfire counters to confirm cylinder 3
  2. Swap coil 3 with a known-good coil and see whether the code follows the part
  3. With the key on, check for battery voltage and a clean ground at the coil connector
  4. Test the control and feedback wires end to end for continuity and for shorts to ground or battery
  5. Inspect the plug well for oil and water and check the boot for carbon tracking
  6. Remove and read the spark plug, checking the gap and the electrode condition
  7. Replace the coil or repair the circuit; assess the ignition control module last and verify with a road test
