What does it mean?
P1322 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Knock Sensor 3 Circuit High Input .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on
- Reduced power and a soft, lazy throttle response because timing is pulled back as a precaution
- Increased fuel consumption
- Possible audible knock or pinging under load, since real detonation is no longer being detected
- Poor performance under heavy load or when climbing
Likely causes
- Signal wire open, or the sensor connector unplugged after previous work
- Internally open knock sensor
- Signal wire shorted to a voltage source
- Broken or poorly terminated shield/ground for the sensor lead
- Corroded terminal with high resistance in the connector
- Module input circuit fault, only after the sensor and wiring are cleared
How to fix it
- Read the knock sensor live data and check whether the channel responds to tapping near the sensor
- Confirm the connector is fully seated and no terminals have been pushed back
- Measure sensor resistance and compare with specification; an open reading confirms a failed sensor
- Check the signal wire and its shield for continuity from the sensor to the module
- Test the signal wire for a short to a battery feed with the sensor unplugged
- Repair the open circuit or replace the sensor, torquing the mounting bolt exactly to specification
- Clear the code and verify normal timing advance on a road test
