What does it mean?
P1328 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Knock Sensor 2 Signal High Input .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on
- Reduced power and lazy acceleration because timing runs on the safe, retarded setting
- Higher fuel consumption
- Detonation under load may not be detected, so pinging can be heard
- Flat performance under heavy load, on hills and when towing
Likely causes
- Signal wire open, or the sensor connector left unplugged after previous work in that area
- Internally open knock sensor 2
- Signal wire shorted to a voltage source or to a reference line
- Broken shield or a missing ground reference for the sensor lead
- High-resistance, corroded terminal in the sensor connector
- Module input fault, only after the sensor and its wiring have been proven
How to fix it
- Check the knock sensor live data and see whether channel 2 reacts to tapping the block near the sensor
- Verify the connector is fully seated and that no terminal has been pushed out of the housing
- Measure the sensor's resistance; an open reading confirms an internally failed sensor
- Check the signal wire and shield for continuity from the sensor to the module
- Test the signal wire for a short to a voltage source with the sensor disconnected
- Repair the open circuit or replace the sensor, torquing the bolt exactly to specification onto a clean seat
- Clear the codes and confirm normal knock control behaviour on a road test
