What does it mean?
P1388 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Internal Control Module Drive By Wire Error .
Symptoms
- MIL on, usually with an electronic throttle warning
- Limp mode with restricted engine speed, the pedal feels dead
- Sudden loss of power while driving
- Unstable or hunting idle
- Engine may refuse to restart until the ignition is cycled
Likely causes
- Internal fault in the module's throttle drive or monitoring circuit
- Low or noisy supply voltage reaching the module
- High resistance or corroded module ground path
- Moisture and corrosion in the module connector
- Throttle actuator drawing excessive current and stressing the driver stage
- Accelerator pedal or throttle position signals out of range, confusing the monitor
- Incorrect or corrupted software calibration
How to fix it
- Record every stored code including pedal and throttle position codes, and read freeze frame
- Measure module supply voltage and run voltage drop tests on power and ground
- Inspect the module connector and harness for corrosion, water and damaged pins
- Check throttle actuator current draw and confirm the throttle plate moves freely by hand with the engine off
- Clean the throttle body and verify that pedal and throttle sensor signals track smoothly in live data
- Confirm the module has the correct software calibration loaded
- Replace the control module only when the external circuits and the actuator test good, then perform the throttle relearn
