What does it mean?
P1545 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Air Conditioning Clutch Relay Control Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Check engine light on and the air conditioning blowing warm
- Compressor never engages, or engages only briefly and drops out
- No idle-up when the air conditioning is requested
- Compressor clutch cycling rapidly with a repeated clicking sound
- Cooling fans behaving unusually when air conditioning is switched on
- Engine performance normal apart from the missing air conditioning
Likely causes
- Failed clutch relay or burnt contacts inside it
- Corroded or heat-damaged relay socket terminals
- Open or shorted relay control wire between the module and the relay
- Blown fuse in the clutch supply circuit
- Open compressor clutch coil, or an air gap that has grown too large for the clutch to pull in
- Poor ground for the relay coil or the clutch circuit
- Module output driver failure as the final step
How to fix it
- Command the compressor clutch relay with a scan tool and listen for it clicking
- Swap the relay for an identical one from a non-critical circuit and see whether the fault follows
- Check the fuse and measure voltage at the clutch connector with air conditioning requested
- Measure the clutch coil resistance and check the clutch air gap against specification
- Check the relay control wire back to the module for continuity, short to ground and short to voltage
- Inspect the relay socket and grounds for corrosion and heat damage
- Replace the relay or the compressor clutch as the tests indicate, and consider the module only afterwards
