What does it mean?
P1732 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Problem in Shift Control System: Shift Solenoid B or C Stuck ON .
Symptoms
- Transmission starts in or jumps to the wrong gear, often skipping ratios
- Very harsh engagement or a hard bump during a specific shift
- Only two or three gears available, with limp mode after repeated faults
- MIL (check engine lamp) on with a transmission warning
- Rising fluid temperature and poor fuel economy from running the wrong ratio
Likely causes
- Solenoid plunger stuck open by varnish, sludge or a trapped particle
- Short to ground on the solenoid drive circuit keeping it energised continuously
- Worn valve body bore letting the shift valve hang in the applied position
- Contaminated ATF and a blocked filter feeding debris to the solenoid screens
- Internal solenoid failure with a collapsed spring or damaged seat
- Chafed internal harness shorting the drive wire against the case
- Module output driver shorted, verified only after the solenoid tests good
How to fix it
- Check fluid level and condition, and note any burnt smell or dark colour
- Compare commanded gear with calculated ratio on live data during a road test
- Command the affected solenoid on and off with a scan tool while watching pressure or ratio change
- Measure solenoid resistance at the case connector and compare both against specification
- Unplug the solenoid and test the drive circuit for a permanent short to ground
- Drop the pan and inspect the solenoid screens, filter and magnet for debris
- Clean or replace the solenoid and valve body, then service the fluid and filter
