What does it mean?
P1735 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit High - Negative Side .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on with a reduced power indication
- Engine locked into limp mode with barely any pedal response
- Erratic or hunting idle, or an idle that stays high
- Hesitation, surging and stalling when coming to a stop
- Repeat failure appearing after driving over rough roads or engine vibration
Likely causes
- Open or high resistance in the negative motor drive wire or its terminal
- Short to battery voltage on the negative side from a chafed loom
- Throttle motor winding open or shorted internally
- Corroded or water contaminated throttle body connector pins
- Broken wire inside the insulation where the harness bends near the engine
- Weak battery or charging fault producing unstable drive voltages
- Module output stage failure, confirmed only after motor and wiring checks
How to fix it
- Check battery condition, terminals and charging output before circuit testing
- Inspect the throttle body connector for water, oil, corrosion and loose terminals
- Measure resistance of the motor windings and check insulation to the housing
- Perform voltage drop tests along the negative drive wire between module and throttle body
- With the connector unplugged, test the negative circuit for a short to battery voltage
- Wiggle the harness while monitoring throttle position live data for dropouts
- Repair the wiring or replace the throttle body, then carry out the throttle relearn procedure
