What does it mean?
P1733 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit High - Positive Side .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on with a reduced power or throttle warning lamp
- Sudden loss of power, the engine only responding at limp mode throttle opening
- Idle that is high, unstable or falls into a fast idle default position
- No response or delayed response to pedal input
- Engine may stall when coming to a stop, and can be hard to restart
Likely causes
- Short to battery voltage on the positive motor drive wire from chafed insulation
- Open or shorted winding inside the throttle actuator motor
- Corroded, wet or spread terminals in the throttle body connector
- Harness damage where the loom flexes near the intake or engine mounts
- Water or oil intrusion into the connector from a leaking intake or washer line
- Poor module ground or low charging system voltage distorting the measurement
- Module output stage failure, considered only after the motor and wiring test good
How to fix it
- Test the battery and charging system first, since low or noisy voltage triggers throttle faults
- Inspect the throttle body connector and harness for oil, water, chafe and terminal damage
- Measure the throttle motor winding resistance and check it for a short to the housing
- With the connector unplugged and the ignition on, check whether battery voltage is present on the drive circuit
- Verify module power and ground with voltage drop tests rather than simple continuity
- Clean the throttle bore and plate, then relearn the throttle position values
- Replace the throttle body if the motor fails testing, and only then consider the control module
