What does it mean?
P1734 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Pressure Control Valve 2 Electrical .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on with a transmission warning
- Shifts that are either very harsh or soft and slipping, depending on default pressure
- Limp mode with a fixed gear and limited speed
- Torque converter lockup does not engage or engages roughly
- Gear ratio errors and delayed engagement when selecting Drive or Reverse
Likely causes
- Open or shorted winding inside the pressure control solenoid
- Short to ground or short to battery on the solenoid drive circuit
- ATF wicking into the case connector and corroding the pins
- Damaged internal transmission harness rubbing on the valve body or pan
- Loose or pushed-out terminals at the module connector
- Sticking valve raising current draw beyond the allowed window
- Module output driver failure, only after the solenoid and wiring are verified
How to fix it
- Read freeze frame data to see fluid temperature and gear when the fault set
- Measure solenoid resistance at the transmission case connector and compare with specification
- Check the drive circuit for a short to ground and a short to battery with the solenoid unplugged
- Command the solenoid with a scan tool and watch actual current or duty against commanded
- Inspect the case connector and internal harness for fluid contamination and chafing
- Repair wiring faults and reseal the case connector before further testing
- Replace the pressure control solenoid, and consider the module only if the new part reports the same fault
