What does it mean?
P1866 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: TCC PWM Solenoid Circuit Low Voltage .
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp on with a torque converter clutch circuit code
- Converter clutch does not apply, or applies and releases erratically
- Shudder or vibration at light throttle around lockup speed
- Engine rpm stays high while cruising and fuel economy suffers
- Transmission fluid temperature climbs, sometimes with a hot smell
- Default (limp) strategy on some vehicles with fixed line pressure and firm shifts
Likely causes
- TCC PWM control wire shorted to ground where it passes a bracket or the transmission case
- Internally shorted solenoid winding pulling the circuit low
- Fluid or moisture in the case connector bridging the control pin to a ground pin
- Damaged internal harness insulation rubbed through by the valve body
- Loss of the solenoid feed voltage through a blown fuse or broken supply wire
- Stuck-on low-side driver in the TCM/PCM holding the circuit at ground
How to fix it
- Save the freeze frame and check fluid level and condition before electrical testing
- Watch the commanded TCC duty cycle in live data and compare it with actual converter slip
- Disconnect the case connector and measure solenoid resistance and its resistance to ground
- With the solenoid unplugged, check the control wire for continuity to ground — a low reading confirms a harness short
- Inspect the pass-through connector for fluid intrusion and repair the seal
- Repair the shorted harness section or replace the internal wiring assembly
- Renew the PWM solenoid if it tests shorted; consider the module only after everything else checks out
