What does it mean?
P3441 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Cylinder 6 Deactivation Solenoid Control Circuit .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on and cylinder deactivation disabled
- Fuel consumption higher because the engine cannot drop cylinders on light load
- Rough idle and vibration if the cylinder 6 valve stays collapsed
- Ticking or clacking noise from the cylinder head
- Cylinder 6 misfire, sometimes with related misfire codes
- Marginally softer throttle response
Likely causes
- Solenoid connector unlatched, backed out or with a terminal displaced in the housing
- Broken control wire between the module and the valve lifter oil manifold
- Oil travelling up the harness and coating the terminal contact faces
- Open winding inside the cylinder 6 deactivation solenoid
- Blown fuse or open supply shared by the deactivation solenoids
- Harness damage under the intake manifold, often left over from a previous repair
How to fix it
- Confirm the engine's cylinder numbering and bank layout so you test the correct solenoid
- Read and note freeze frame data before clearing the code
- Unplug the cylinder 6 solenoid and inspect the terminals for oil film, corrosion and push-back
- Measure the coil resistance at the solenoid; infinite resistance confirms an open winding
- Check continuity of the control wire to the module connector and verify supply with the key on
- Wiggle the harness while monitoring resistance to catch an intermittent open
- Repair the wire or terminal or fit a new solenoid, then command the output with a scan tool to confirm current now flows
