What does it mean?

U2013 is a Network (CAN bus, module communications) fault code. It indicates: Compass Module is Not Responding .

Symptoms

  • Compass heading missing, frozen or clearly wrong
  • Display shows dashes instead of a heading
  • Auto-dimming mirror or interior lighting may fail at the same time
  • Outside temperature display may also be lost where the two share a module
  • Scan tool cannot reach the compass module
  • Code returns immediately after clearing

Likely causes

  • Compass module without power — blown fuse or lost ignition feed
  • Connector at the mirror or overhead console loose or corroded
  • Damaged wiring in the headliner or A-pillar, often after windscreen or headliner work
  • Compass built into the mirror assembly failing internally
  • Poor ground at the module mounting point
  • Bus wiring fault between the compass module and the body module
  • Module replaced without configuration, or never calibrated for the zone

How to fix it

  1. Check the fuse and measure supply voltage and ground at the module connector
  2. Reseat the mirror or overhead console connector and inspect for corrosion and bent pins
  3. Inspect the headliner and A-pillar wiring for pinched or cut wires after previous work
  4. Verify bus continuity from the compass module to the body module
  5. Carry out the compass calibration and zone setting procedure before condemning anything
  6. Move magnetic objects and phone holders away from the mirror area and retest
  7. Replace the compass or mirror assembly only after power, ground and bus test good
