Signal Link Fault (Non SCP)

Jump to the fix

Severity

Medium

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Locate the affected link by mapping the network, then test the wire itself.

What does it mean?

U2015 is a Network (CAN bus, module communications) fault code. It indicates: Data Circuit Message .

Symptoms

  • Several warning lamps on at once with no mechanical fault behind them
  • Functions that depend on shared data stop working
  • Scan tool link unstable or one module missing from the list
  • Faults appear on rough roads or in wet weather
  • Gauges or displays freeze briefly then recover
  • Codes clear but return on the next drive

Likely causes

  • Open circuit or high resistance on the signal link between the two modules
  • Corroded or partially latched connector on the signal circuit
  • Chafed wire shorted to ground or to an adjacent circuit
  • One of the modules at either end without proper power or ground
  • Harness damage after accessory installation, body repair or rodent activity
  • Moisture inside a connector bridging the signal line
  • Internal driver failure in the transmitting module

How to fix it

  1. Scan every module and note which ones answer, to identify the affected link
  2. Check power and ground at both ends of that signal link
  3. Test the link for continuity, short to ground and short to battery with a multimeter
  4. Wiggle-test each harness section while monitoring live data for dropouts
  5. Inspect the connectors for corrosion, moisture and terminal push-back, and repair terminals as needed
  6. Repair the wire by soldering and sealing rather than crimping into an aged harness
  7. Replace a module only once the circuit itself has been proven good
