What does it mean?
B1361 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: DBPT Circuit Resistance Too High .
Symptoms
- SRS lamp on
- The driver belt pretensioner will not fire in a crash, so the belt will not be pulled tight
- The fault often appears straight after seat adjustment, seat removal or vacuuming under the seat
- Frequently intermittent, setting as the seat is moved through its travel
- The belt still retracts and locks normally, so the fault is invisible without a scan tool
Likely causes
- Under-seat pretensioner connector knocked loose or left half-latched after seat work or interior cleaning
- Corroded or pushed-back terminal in the under-seat restraint connector
- Broken strands inside a wire that flexes every time the seat is slid forwards and backwards
- Open igniter inside the pretensioner unit itself
- A pretensioner that has already been deployed, or a replacement belt assembly of the wrong specification
- High resistance at the module-side plug from a bent or partly inserted pin
- Driver stage fault inside the airbag control module
How to fix it
- Check whether the code is current or historic, and whether it sets during seat movement
- Power the restraint system down safely and wait the specified reserve power discharge time
- Slide the seat for access, unlatch the under-seat connector and inspect both halves for corrosion, spread pins and a partly seated lock
- Reseat the connector firmly, clear the code, then flex the loom while watching for the fault to return
- Check the flexing section of the under-seat harness for broken strands hidden inside intact insulation
- Substitute an approved load simulator at the pretensioner to separate a harness fault from a faulty unit
- Replace the pretensioner or belt assembly if the open is inside it, never striking, opening or heating a pretensioner, and consider the control module only after everything upstream is proven good
