What does it mean?
B1422 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Side-airbag module (RH) (squib) system fault ground circuit (short-circuited to ground) .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on and the right side restraint disabled
- Fault appears immediately after seat, carpet or centre console work
- The code is current at every ignition cycle and cannot be cleared away
- Sometimes accompanied by other codes from circuits routed in the same loom section
- Vehicle drives normally, so the lamp is the only clue
Likely causes
- Squib wire pinched between the seat frame and the floor pan, cutting through to bare metal
- Harness trapped under a seat mounting bolt or a trim clip during reassembly
- Water in the seat base or footwell corroding a terminal until it leaks to the connector shell
- Insulation melted where the harness rests against a heated seat element or an exhaust tunnel heat shield
- Internal short to the metal housing inside the side airbag module
- Damaged connector shell letting a pin touch the metal bracket it is clipped to
- Fault inside the restraint control module output stage
How to fix it
- Switch off, disconnect the battery and wait the specified reserve discharge time before disturbing anything
- Remove the seat carefully and inspect the full length of the yellow harness for pinch marks, cuts and areas rubbed down to copper
- Check under the seat mounting bolts and along the floor pan edges where the loom can be trapped
- Look for water in the footwell or seat base and cure the leak before making an electrical repair
- With the airbag module unplugged and a manufacturer approved load tool fitted, check whether the short to ground is still present in the harness
- Repair or renew the damaged harness section, then reroute and clip it away from sharp edges and heat sources
- Replace the side airbag module only when the load tool proves the wiring is clean, then clear the memory and confirm the lamp goes out
