Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

De-energise the restraint system first by switching off, disconnecting the battery and waiting the specified discharge time

What does it mean?

B1425 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Side-airbag module (RH) (squib ignition drive circuit) .

Symptoms

  • Airbag warning lamp stays lit after start up and the side airbag is inhibited
  • Deployment of the right side airbag is prevented in a genuine side impact
  • Fault is stored as current and reappears at the next ignition cycle after clearing
  • Occasionally intermittent, setting only after the vehicle has been washed or driven in heavy rain
  • No other system behaves abnormally

Likely causes

  • High resistance or intermittent contact in the restraint module connector serving the right side firing output
  • Terminal fretting caused by repeated connector removal during interior work
  • Broken or partly severed conductor in the firing pair between the module and the seat
  • Corrosion inside the module connector after water has run into the centre console area
  • Failure of the output driver inside the restraint control module
  • Airbag module with an initiator resistance outside the accepted band, for example a non specified replacement
  • Poor module ground or unstable supply during the ignition on self test

How to fix it

  1. De-energise the restraint system first by switching off, disconnecting the battery and waiting the specified discharge time
  2. Confirm battery condition and charging voltage before diagnosing the module, since low voltage skews the self test
  3. Remove and inspect the restraint module connectors for water marks, green terminals, fretting or a lock that never fully engaged
  4. Check the module mounting bolts and its ground path, as the unit relies on a solid connection to the body
  5. Inspect the firing pair from the module to the under seat connector for crush damage, chafe and previous splices
  6. Fit the approved simulator in place of the side airbag module and retest to establish whether the fault stays with the module
  7. Replace the restraint control module last, configure it for the vehicle, clear the memory and verify the lamp completes its self test and goes out
