What does it mean?
B1479 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Channel 6 Audio Speaker Output Circuit Performance .
Symptoms
- Sound from the channel 6 position is distorted, weak or rattly
- Output from that speaker comes and goes without any pattern
- Fader and balance no longer set the stage correctly
- The channel may be muted for a period and then return by itself
- Code comes back after clearing even though the speaker is not fully dead
Likely causes
- Voice coil partly damaged or aged, moving the impedance out of range
- Wrong-impedance or non-matching speaker fitted on that channel
- High-resistance connection at a corroded terminal or a poor crimp
- Conductor fatiguing where the loom flexes, giving an intermittent load
- Moisture in the speaker or its connector after a seal or drain problem
- Amplifier channel 6 output stage degrading
How to fix it
- Play a steady tone and use fader and balance to identify the affected speaker
- Remove trim and inspect the cone, surround, basket and terminals for damage, corrosion and damp
- Measure the speaker's DC resistance at its terminals against the value for this system
- Repeat at the amplifier connector to see whether the wiring in between adds resistance
- Flex the loom at its bend points while watching the meter for dropouts
- Substitute a known-good speaker at the amplifier end to test the output itself
- Repair the wiring or fit a correct-specification speaker, then clear the code and confirm with a fader sweep
- Look at the amplifier last, once speaker and wiring both check out
