What does it mean?
B1522 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Buckle Switch Driver Open or Short to Ground .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on
- Belt reminder chime rings continuously with the belt fastened, or never rings at all
- Belt status in scan data frozen and unresponsive to latching
- Fault comes and goes as the seat is slid forward and back
- Driver belt pretensioner deployment logic disabled
Likely causes
- Under-seat connector unplugged or not fully latched after seat removal, cleaning or seat cover fitting
- Wire broken inside the insulation where the harness bends with every seat adjustment
- Buckle wiring chafed through onto the seat frame or a rail, grounding the signal
- Drink spilled into the buckle leaving a conductive residue across the contacts
- Worn switch contacts inside the buckle after long service
- Terminal corroded or pushed out of the connector, either losing contact or touching the seat structure
- Wiring crushed under a seat mounting bolt when the seat was refitted
How to fix it
- Latch and release the belt while monitoring live data to see whether the signal is stuck open or stuck at ground
- Inspect the buckle mouth for coins, debris, dried liquid or a bypass clip left in the latch
- Unplug the under-seat connector and inspect for corrosion, bent pins and terminals backed out of the housing
- With the buckle disconnected, measure switch resistance latched and released, then measure the harness side to ground
- Flex the harness through the full seat travel while watching for the signal to drop out
- Repair the broken or grounded harness section and secure it away from the rails and frame
- Replace the driver buckle assembly if the switch itself is open or shorted internally
