What does it mean?

B1526 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Seat belt switch (LH) circuit (ground side) shorted (for Normal/Open terminal) .

Symptoms

  • Airbag warning lamp on
  • Left belt reminder never chimes, or chimes at the wrong time
  • Scan data shows the belt latched even with the buckle released
  • Fault will not clear until the grounded circuit is repaired
  • Related belt switch codes stored for the same side

Likely causes

  • Liquid spilled into the buckle, leaving conductive residue that bridges the contact to the switch body
  • Worn or collapsed contacts inside the buckle after many years of use
  • Return wire chafed against the seat pan or a sharp bracket edge
  • Connector under the seat corroded by a persistent floor leak
  • Loom clamped or trapped when the seat was last removed and refitted
  • Aftermarket wiring cable tied to the belt switch loom and abrading it over time

How to fix it

  1. Operate the buckle several times while watching live data to prove the state never changes
  2. Remove the buckle and inspect the latch mouth for sticky residue, debris and signs of a spill
  3. Disconnect the buckle and measure resistance from the return terminal to the switch body in both positions
  4. Check the harness side to ground with the buckle disconnected to separate wiring from component
  5. Inspect the loom along the seat pan and rails for abrasion and for cable ties cutting into the insulation
  6. Repair or replace the grounded harness section and secure it properly
  7. Fit a new belt buckle assembly if the short is internal, then clear the code and confirm the state changes
