What does it mean?
B1528 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Seat belt switch (LH) circuit (ground side) shorted (for common terminal ) .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on
- Left belt reminder locked in one state, and belt status in scan data never changes
- Multiple left belt switch codes present at once, because both contacts share the affected leg
- Code returns immediately after clearing
- Belt pretensioner staging for that seat disabled
Likely causes
- Common wire chafed through onto the seat frame, floor pan or a rail bracket
- Loom crushed under the seat mounting when the seat was refitted
- Corrosion or moisture in the under-seat connector bridging the common pin to the shell or the seat body
- Terminal pushed out of the connector and lying against bare metal
- Internal short in the buckle where the shared return contacts the switch housing
- Damage from a previous repair where the loom was taped directly to a metal edge
How to fix it
- Confirm the short is live by clearing the code and rechecking rather than trusting stored history
- Unplug the buckle and measure the common wire to ground with the connector separated
- Inspect the loom along the seat pan and rails for worn insulation and for crushing under the seat mounts
- Check the under-seat connector for water, corrosion and a terminal resting against metal
- Remove anything stored under the seat that presses the loom against the floor pan
- Repair the grounded wire with proper terminals and secure it away from sharp edges
- Replace the buckle assembly if the short is inside it, then clear the code and verify normal operation
