What does it mean?
B1529 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Seat belt switch (LH) circuit (power supply side) shorted (for common terminal) .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on
- Left belt reminder frozen in one state, with no chime or a chime that never stops
- Belt status in scan data does not respond to the buckle
- More than one left belt switch code stored at once, because both contacts use this leg
- Occasionally a seat circuit fuse blows or a seat function stops working
Likely causes
- Common wire chafed against a live seat circuit such as a seat heater, seat motor or memory feed
- Aftermarket seat heater or accessory spliced into the seat loom and leaking voltage into the belt switch return
- Terminal backed out of the under-seat connector and touching a supply pin
- Water and corrosion inside the connector bridging a powered pin to the common leg
- Insulation damaged where the loom passes the seat frame after seat removal
- Internal short in the buckle between the shared return and a powered contact
How to fix it
- Note how many left belt switch codes are stored; several at once point to the shared common leg
- Unplug the buckle and check the common wire for battery voltage with the ignition on
- Inspect the seat loom for aftermarket splices and disconnect any add-on wiring for a retest
- Check the under-seat connector for moisture, corrosion and terminals touching live pins
- Follow the loom for melted or worn insulation where it crosses powered leads
- Repair the damaged wiring with proper terminals and reroute it clear of supply circuits
- Replace the buckle assembly if the short is internal, then clear the code and confirm the belt state changes
