What does it mean?
B1995 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Driver–Side Side Air Bag Module Circuit Resistance Low .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on continuously and that airbag disabled
- Code returns immediately after being cleared
- Fault sometimes appears only when the seat is moved to a particular position
- Additional restraint codes stored if the same section of harness is damaged
- Vehicle cannot pass an inspection with the restraint lamp lit
Likely causes
- Partial short between the two squib wires where the insulation has been crushed under the seat
- Moisture and corrosion inside the yellow connector reducing the loop resistance
- Shorting bar in the connector still engaged or damaged, bridging both terminals
- Wiring pinched by the seat frame, recline mechanism or a fitted seat cover
- Internal fault in the airbag module lowering the squib resistance
- Poor repair with a non approved connector or a splice in the squib circuit
- Measuring circuit fault inside the restraint control module
How to fix it
- Confirm the code is current, then record whether it is affected by seat position
- Make the system safe: ignition off, battery disconnected and the specified waiting time observed before unplugging anything
- Never measure the inflator with a meter, connect an approved squib load tool in place of the airbag and see whether the code clears
- If the code goes away with the load tool fitted, the airbag module is at fault; if it stays, the wiring or the control module is
- Inspect the connector for corrosion, a damaged shorting bar, bent pins and moisture
- Check the harness for crush points under the seat and along the recline mechanism, moving the seat while inspecting
- Repair or replace the affected harness or airbag module, then clear the code and confirm the lamp goes out after its self check
