What does it mean?

B1998 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Left Power Sliding Door Position Sensor 2 Circuit Performance .

Symptoms

  • Left sliding door stops partway, reverses or refuses powered operation
  • Door works normally by hand but not under power
  • Repeated warning beeps during a door cycle
  • Door does not latch fully or closes with a slam
  • Problem worse on an incline or when the vehicle is heavily loaded

Likely causes

  • Contaminated or failing sensor in the door drive unit
  • Drive cable, pulley or clutch slipping so the door and the counts disagree
  • Rollers, lower track or hinge binding, worn or full of debris
  • Damaged flexible harness where it bends with every door cycle
  • Corrosion in the drive unit or door jamb connector
  • Door travel calibration lost after a battery disconnect or a repair to the track
  • Low battery voltage or a poor module ground affecting the signal

How to fix it

  1. Check the battery and charging voltage before assuming a sensor fault
  2. Watch the sensor 2 count in live data while the door is moved slowly by hand, looking for gaps or a frozen value
  3. Compare it with position sensor 1, the two should follow each other consistently
  4. Clean and inspect the tracks and rollers, then move the door manually to feel for tight spots
  5. Flex the door harness while monitoring the signal to expose a broken conductor
  6. Inspect the drive unit sensor mounting and connector for dirt, water and corrosion
  7. Perform the door calibration, then replace the sensor or drive unit if the signal still fails to track the movement
