Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Get to the antenna connector at the head unit first, this is where the fault usually is.

What does it mean?

B2204 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: ECU Configuration Mismatch .

Symptoms

  • Navigation shows no position, or the vehicle icon drifts and jumps around the map
  • Screen message about searching for satellites that never clears
  • Position updates only from wheel speed, so the icon lags and wanders
  • Emergency call and connected services that rely on position stop working
  • Clock no longer sets itself from satellite time
  • Route guidance unusable while other head unit functions are normal

Likely causes

  • Antenna coaxial lead unplugged at the back of the head unit, often after audio or dash work
  • Coaxial cable pinched, kinked or cut during trim removal or an accessory installation
  • Centre pin of the coaxial connector bent, pushed back or corroded
  • Active antenna failed internally, most GPS antennas take their supply through the same coax
  • Water damage to a roof or dash mounted antenna after a leaking seal
  • Aftermarket head unit or an antenna adapter that does not supply the antenna correctly
  • Short between the coax centre conductor and the screen caused by crushing
  • Head unit antenna supply circuit failed, considered after the antenna and cable are checked

How to fix it

  1. Confirm the manufacturer definition and where the antenna is mounted on this vehicle
  2. Open the satellite or diagnostic screen in the navigation menu and check how many satellites are seen
  3. Pull the head unit and check the coaxial connector is fully seated and the centre pin is straight
  4. Inspect the cable along its route for kinks, crush points and staples from previous work
  5. Check for the antenna supply voltage at the coax centre pin, most active antennas need it to work
  6. Measure between the centre conductor and the screen, a dead short or a total open both point at a damaged cable or antenna
  7. Substitute a known good antenna to confirm before ordering
  8. Replace the antenna or repair the cable, then verify satellite count and position accuracy on a short road test
